New Medical Office Building Coming Soon
Upson Regional Medical Center today announced plans to expand access to healthcare Barnesville and Lamar County.
CEO David Castleberry said, "Lamar County is projected to experience population growth over the next few years, and we want to be there to help meet the communitys healthcare needs."
The hospital has purchased a three-acre parcel of land on Highway 18, behind Walgreens and across from the schools, on which to construct a Medical Office Building. The 30,000 square foot facility will be designed to house an array of services, including adult and primary care physicians, physical, speech and occupational therapy and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation.
By moving its multiple medical services available under one roof, Upson will create economies of scale and eliminate redundancies. "It will allow us to offer a broad base of health care services that work together to provide patients with a coordinated and convenient continuum of care," said Castleberry.
Once construction is complete, hospital-owned practices, including Dr. Charmille Hare, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine and Upson Womens Services Barnesville office, will locate to the new Medical Office Building. Castleberry said the hospital also will recruit more physicians and house their practices within the new facility. "Our focus will be on the recruitment of specialty physicians to meet the areas healthcare needs."
He added that physician recruitment takes community effort and will meet a community need. "Together we can strengthen existing practices and grow medical specialties in Barnesville," he said. "Healthcare is local, and anything we can do to preserve that and grow it makes sense."
Once a contractor is selected and ground is broken, officials estimate it will take eight to 12 months to build the $6 million facility.
